Who We Are

Land Acknowledgement

Imagine Canada’s staff, operations, work, and network depend on traditional Indigenous territories to provide us physical space, sustenance, safety, and community to work, live, and play.

Our physical head office is located on the traditional territory of many nations including the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishinabeg, the Haudenosaunee, the Chippewa, and the Wendat (Wyandot). We acknowledge that these lands are covered by Treaty 13 and the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant. We acknowledge that these lands are still home to many diverse First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people.

Our Mission, Vision, and Strategy

Our Mission

Our mission is to strengthen Canadian charities and nonprofits so they can better serve individuals and communities both here and around the world.

Our Vision

Our vision is of a stronger Canada where charities and nonprofits work together alongside business and government to build vibrant and prosperous communities.

Our Approach

Canada’s nonprofit sector is an incredible force solving our most pressing challenges – yet in many ways it remains undervalued, under-resourced, and underprepared for the complexity we face.

We can’t keep asking nonprofits to do more with less. We can’t solve 21st-century problems with outdated funding models and leadership practices. And we can’t drive transformative change if the sector isn’t recognized as an essential partner at decision-making tables.

Our Strategy

Our work is guided by Building Our Collective Power (2026–2030), our new Strategic Action Plan – created with input from hundreds of social impact leaders, volunteers, donors, and stakeholders across the country. You told us what matters most: strategic focus, meaningful convening, and championing the sector’s fundamental needs around trust, resources, and leadership capacity.

Grounded in this collective wisdom, the plan positions Imagine Canada as a national catalyst for a trusted, well-resourced, and future-ready sector that drives lasting change in communities across Canada and around the globe. It calls us to act boldly, embed equity in every action, and collaborate across communities, sectors, and systems to drive lasting change.

Strategic Action Plan: Building Our Collective Power (2026–2030)

Strategic Action Plan: Building Our Collective Power

The Strategic Action Plan focuses on three aspirations:

  1. The sector is seen as community-driven, trusted, valued, and credible by all the employees, volunteers, donors, governments, and communities it seeks to serve
  2. The sector is resourced equitably and ambitiously, empowered to invest in talent, infrastructure, and bold solutions for the public good
  3. The sector has future-ready leadership that reflects communities, is equipped to navigate complexity, and is prepared to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow

These three aspirations aren’t separate - they’re interconnected. Trust unlocks resources. Resources enable leadership. Strong leadership builds trust. Together, they create a sector that doesn’t just survive but thrives - driving the equity, connection, and innovation that our communities need.

To achieve these aspirations, Imagine Canada will focus our work through three interconnected pathways:

  1. Building networks and shared resources for collective progress
  2. Developing insights and mobilizing knowledge for action
  3. Being a spotlight that illuminates what’s possible

An invitation and a roadmap

The sector’s strength lies in our collective action, and this plan is both an invitation and a roadmap for working together to build stronger communities. annual report 2024
United We Stand

The charitable and nonprofit sector is strongest when we work together; this has never been clearer than in 2024. The momentum built the year prior served as a catalyst to deepen partnerships and enabled our work alongside organizations across the country. 2024 was a year of steady progress focused on advancing shared priorities and championing the vital role of nonprofits. Amid rising political and economic uncertainty, the sector came together, united in purpose, to ensure communities across Canada thrive.

Our Annual Report highlights work we prioritized in 2024 in collaboration with and in support of the nonprofit sector.
