Reporting to the Manager, Strategic Advocacy (Bilingual), the Coordinator, Policy & Advocacy (Bilingual) will carry out activities related to growing a Canadian-wide research, policy and advocacy network for the charitable and nonprofit sector. This involves administering tasks related to knowledge mobilization activities, coordinating the input of multiple stakeholders in development of sector-related public policy, and carrying out supportive tasks related to research and advocacy activities.

Responsibilities
  • Support the planning and execution of Imagine Canada’s policy and advocacy work. Assist in the execution of communications, engagement & mobilization strategies.
  • Coordinate with the marketing & communications team to integrate advocacy communications into overall organizational communications across various digital and non-digital channels.
  • Contribute to the development of high-impact content and documents in English and French, including writing for Imagine Canada’s website, newsletters and social media as well as preparing talking points and briefing materials for staff.
  • Support with and/or oversight of event planning and logistics (webinars, lobby days, luncheons, conferences, panels).
  • Scheduling, communication, notetaking and other logistics involved in convening sector leaders for consultations and activities related to policy and advocacy coalitions.
  • Assist with coordination of government relations meetings.
  • Support the preparation of research reports and policy briefs by compiling data, summarizing findings, and drafting sections as needed.
  • General administrative functions including database and document management, updating spreadsheets and trackers, and maintaining up-to-date contact lists.
  • Liaise with vendors, including graphic designers, printers, caterers.
  • Represent Imagine Canada at policy and research-related events and conferencess

Minimum qualifications
  • Complete fluency in English and French, verbal and written. These skills will be assessed during the interview process.
  • Ability to coordinate events and creation of content within a distributed, cross-functional team in a fast-paced environment with rapidly changing priorities.
  • Ability to write clear, concise and engaging content on complex policy topics for a general audience.
  • Interest in working in a network- or membership-based organization.
  • Knowledge of federal government structures and processes.
  • Knowledge of public policy development processes and advocacy strategies.

*Remote work is the norm for staff, but in-person attendance at regular staff retreats (and other meetings depending on the role) is required.

Terms & Conditions

  • Terms of Employment: This is a full-time, permanent position.
  • Annual Salary Range: In addition to health/dental benefits including a Health Spending Account and a Group Retirement Savings Plan (RSP), the 2025 starting salary for this position is $62,500, with an automatic salary increase every year towards a target salary of $75,000, which the incumbent is expected to reach after three years in the role.
  • Location: Anywhere in Canada with a reliable internet connection. This position will be required to travel occasionally to in-person meetings, conferences, and in-person staff gatherings.
  • Work hours: Imagine Canada is currently piloting a 4-day work week, Monday-Thursday, for a total of 28 working hours/week. This pilot is running until December 31, 2026 with the possibility of extension. We offer flexible working hours to accommodate personal and family commitments. This position will be required to work non-traditional hours occasionally to respond to issues emerging in the external operating environment.

Steps to Apply

  1. Applicants are invited to complete our short online application form and provide a copy of their resume. 
  2. We expect to invite 8-10 qualified candidates to a short introductory video call (30 minutes).
  3. Our office will be closed from Tuesday, December 24, 2024-Wednesday, January 1, 2025 inclusive for an organization-wide holiday closure.
  4. When our office reopens in January, we expect to invite 4-5 shortlisted candidates to attend a full, video interview (60 minutes), to complete a Predictive Index behavioural assessment to better understand and discuss your working style (10 minutes to complete), and to complete an asynchronous written assessment to explore comprehension, task prioritization and writing skills. Interview questions and a copy of your PI results will be provided in advance of the call.
  5. We’ll collect references for the top 2 candidates.
  6. We anticipate an early February start date for this position.
