Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience Charts New Strategic Direction for Canada's Nonprofit Digital Future

Press release

New strategic direction focuses on data management & literacy, cybersecurity readiness, and emerging technology to strengthen Canada’s nonprofit sector

Toronto, April 9, 2026 — The Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience (CCNDR) releases its 2026–2029 Strategic Plan, “From Foundations to Impact: Advancing Nonprofit Digital Resilience,” alongside a new Theory of Change, refreshed brand identity, and redesigned bilingual website. Together, these mark a significant milestone in CCNDR’s evolution from a founding initiative to an established national entity.

A strategy shaped by the sector

The Strategic Plan was informed by a national consultation process led by Open North in 2025, which reached more than 8,000 nonprofit professionals across Canada. The findings were clear, technology adoption and cybersecurity are urgent priorities, data management and privacy challenges are widespread, and funding and skills gaps continue to limit progress.

In response, the plan organizes CCNDR’s work around three focus areas: Data Management and Literacy, Cybersecurity Readiness, and Emerging Technology (AI). These are supported by the 4As Framework (Assess, Access, Act, Amplify), a collaborative model designed to turn shared learning into collective action across the sector.

From founding initiative to national infrastructure

Born out of sector-wide conversations that began in 2020, CCNDR officially launched in 2022 through the collective effort of seven co-founding organizations committed to addressing the growing digital divide in Canada’s nonprofit sector. What began as volunteer-led conversations has grown into a national collaborative with dedicated leadership, an Advisory Council, active programs such as The Nonprofit AI Skilling CoLab, and a growing network of funders and partners.

Now stewarded by Imagine Canada, CCNDR works alongside nonprofits, funders, and sector partners to strengthen digital capacity, protect community trust, and support practical, community-rooted digital change. The Centre prioritizes equitable access, especially for organizations facing the greatest barriers to inclusion.

“When I joined as Executive Director in late 2024, the mission was strong, the need was clear, and the sector was ready for change,” said Wilfreda Edward, Executive Director, CCNDR. “This strategy is our answer to a simple but demanding question: what does it actually mean for nonprofits to be digitally resilient? Over the next three years, we are committing to act with greater clarity and intention, aligning our efforts where they matter most and advancing digital progress through collaboration.”

By 2029, CCNDR aims to reach at least 5,000 nonprofits and grassroots organizations, with a focus on building digital confidence across boards, leaders, staff, and funders so they can use data and technology with skill, care, and trust.

New brand, new website

The refreshed brand identity and redesigned website at ccndr.ca reflect CCNDR’s growth and maturity. The visual identity has been modernized while maintaining continuity with the Centre’s original palette and origins. The bilingual website offers clearer pathways to resources, programs, and partnership opportunities.
