Toronto, August 27, 2020 - Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) and Imagine Canada are pleased to announce that a collection of resources from the former HR Council for the Voluntary and Non-Profit Sector and its HRCouncil.ca site, retired in 2018, will be updated and relaunched in 2021. The Ontario Nonprofit Network (ONN) will also participate in this project as a content partner, sharing its suite of resources to further a decent work movement in the sector.
COVID-19 has deeply affected workplace practices and the sector’s labour force. The information provided through this project will reflect the sector’s evolving landscape, and aim to equip organizations with the tools they need to guide recruitment efforts and to retain talent while mitigating risk. Guidance will be provided for nonprofit organizations on topics including succession planning, compensation, support for staff in periods of downsizing and diversity and inclusion, among many others.
“Talent is our sector’s most important asset,” said Bruce MacDonald, President and CEO of Imagine Canada. “However, most charitable organizations don’t have the capacity to have a dedicated HR department or staff. Accessing guidelines and best practices in the areas of hiring, training and development will help guide nonprofit leaders address challenges and opportunities and contribute to further strengthen charities and the sector more broadly. We would like to thank CFC for maintaining these resources since 2012.”
The HR Council assets were acquired by CFC in 2013. CFC administered the HR Council platform until 2018. The platform was paused in 2018, pending a transition to a new host organization. Imagine Canada, whose mission is promoting and supporting the charitable sector’s efforts, is well-placed to update and offer the former HR Council assets going forward, notably through alignment with its Standards Program and many other programs and resources it provides that support operational excellence of nonprofit organizations in Canada.
“CFC has been pleased to steward these resources for the past seven years,” said Sara Lyons, VP of Strategic Initiatives at CFC. “We believe this is an important moment to re-invest in HR support, guidance and leadership for the charitable and nonprofit sector, particularly as organizations navigate new challenges and opportunities in the context of COVID-19. CFC is pleased to partner with Imagine Canada and ONN to ensure that the renewed assets lean into calls for decent work and increased diversity and inclusion. Imagine Canada is well positioned to take this work into the future.”
