Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience announces new governance model

News

Toronto, April 4, 2024 - The co-founders of the Canadian Centre for Nonprofit Digital Resilience (CCNDR) today announced a number of new initiatives designed to strengthen and enhance the Centre’s operations to more efficiently help nonprofits leverage data and technology to advance their mission. The co-founder group, which includes the Tamarack Institute, Social Economy through Social Inclusion (SETSI), Digital Governance Council, NTEN, and Imagine Canada, has been operating as a collective and these announcements will continue to evolve the Centre’s functioning. These new initiatives, anchored in the collective’s commitments to governance excellence, accountability and transparency, include moving responsibility for the day-to-day operations to Imagine Canada in a stewarding relationship, engaging more nonprofit sector organizations through a new CCNDR Advisory Council, expanding the roster of funded projects, and enhancing communications and knowledge mobilization activities.

Launched in 2022, CCNDR has sought to support a digitally-enabled nonprofit sector, where Canada’s diverse nonprofits use data and technology to advance their mission and multiply their impact. Since its inception, it has engaged in projects designed to create a digital skills talent model, improve technology leadership skills for nonprofit leaders, and support digital transformation for gender justice organizations serving immigrant and refugee women, to name just a few.

In the coming weeks, CCNDR will be initiating a process to hire its next Executive Director, launching a process to identify interested and skilled individuals to join the Advisory Council, and working on updating its website and public-facing communications.

The CCNDR founders are grateful for the continued support and participation of its funder network who have been steadfast in their support during this transition.

"CCNDR exemplifies what a steadfast dedication to community development, transparency and solidarity should look like" stated Victor Beausoleil, Executive Director of SETSI. "Through the implementation of collaborative and impactful initiatives, and enhancing knowledge mobilization, we remain committed to empowering nonprofits in leveraging data and advancing digital innovation."

"The Tamarack Institute has been pleased to steward the founders group and collective effort of CCNDR over the past two years," stated Liz Weaver, President and Co-CEO of Tamarack Institute. "Imagine Canada will play the important roles of being a sector-wide host for CCNDR and integrating the work into Imagine Canada’s policy agenda."

"Imagine Canada is delighted to be playing a host role for CCNDR in this new governance model’ stated Bruce MacDonald, President & CEO of Imagine Canada. "We are excited to continue to support this centre of excellence as it offers leadership to the nonprofit sector’s ongoing digital evolution."

"Building the digital capacity of the nonprofit sector is essential for maximizing their impact on the communities they serve in today’s increasingly digital world’ said Keith Jansa, CEO of Digital Governance Council. "Nonprofits have the remarkable opportunity to harness the transformative power of digital technologies to advance their missions”.

"CCNDR has been a practice in building capacity and building power collectively," said Amy Sample Ward, CEO of NTEN, "which is both why NTEN has been involved and why I am so thrilled for this next phase where many more organizations, nonprofit staff, and service providers can be part of this collective work. Together we can shift our sector to one where everyone is able to use technology to meet our missions and really change our world."
